Test method of Copper Chloride

Identification test :

Coloration with Ammonia Solution :
Dissolve 0.1 gm sample in 10ml of 10% w/v Ammonia solution.

Result : The Result solution should be Blue in color.

Assay (as CuCl) :

Procedure : Weight Accurately about 3 gm of the sample in 250 ml Iodine flask and dissolve it by adding 25ml of 10% Ferric Alum solution (10 gm of Ferric Ammonium Sulphate and made up to 100 ml of 6N Sulphuric Acid solution). Heat it to dissolve the sample., if necessary. Titrate with standard .01 N Potassium Permanganate solution. till the color changes from Green to Brownish Pink color. Carry out black titration omitting the sample.
1ml 0.1N KMnO4 = 0.0099 gm CuCl

Calculation :

% CuCl   =               A * N * 0.099 * 100
                                        M
             =                    A * N * 9.9
                                        M
Where,
            A = Volume in ml of standard KMnO4 solution required for the
                  titration.
            N = Normality of standard KMnO4 solution
            M = Mass in gm of the sample taken for the test.
